As we step into 2025, I’m reflecting on what has been an incredible year of growth, creativity, and connection. In 2024, I challenged myself to step outside my comfort zone in so many ways—from creating my Instagram page to attending two inspiring Frocktails events and collaborating with talented sewists in the sewing community. Every project I made carried a story of learning, joy, and perseverance. Now, I’m ready to take on 2025 with even bigger sewing goals!

Looking Back: 2024 in Review

2024 marked a turning point in my sewing journey. It was the first year I created an Instagram page to document and share my sewing projects. Through this platform, I connected with so many like-minded sewists, learned from their work, and even had the chance to collaborate on exciting challenges.

One of the highlights of my year was attending two Frocktails events (Toronto and Atlanta)—sewing meetups where creativity and community came alive. These gatherings inspired me to try new styles, embrace bold patterns, and step out of my usual comfort zone. From everyday wear to glamorous evening gowns, I’ve grown more confident in my skills and excited to tackle even bigger projects. Each piece I sewed was a reflection of my personality and an opportunity to learn something new.

My Sewing Goals for 2025

With a new year comes new aspirations. This year, I’m setting my sights on three major goals:

1. Tackling More Advanced Techniques

I want to push myself creatively by learning and mastering more advanced sewing techniques. This includes skills like creating welt pockets, adding couture finishes, and perfecting fit adjustments for a polished look. Each new skill will not only elevate my projects but also expand my confidence as a sewist.

2. Creating Tailored Pieces

In keeping with my desire to grow, I plan to add more tailored garments to my wardrobe. There’s something so rewarding about creating pieces that fit perfectly and exude timeless elegance. From structured blazers to sleek coats, tailored garments will be a key focus for 2025.

3. Mixing Bold Fabrics with Classic Designs

One of my favorite things about sewing is discovering fabulous fabrics in the clearance section of fabric stores. I love taking bold prints or unique textures and pairing them with classic designs to create standout modern pieces. This year, I’m looking forward to continuing this practice and experimenting even further with my fabric choices.

• I’m a clearance section queen! I enjoy discovering fabulous fabrics in the clearance section of fabric stores—it’s like a treasure hunt for hidden gems.
• Bold meets classic. I love mixing bold fabrics with classic designs to create pieces that are both modern and unique.
• 2025 is about growth. My sewing goal for the year is to push my creativity further by tackling advanced techniques and adding more tailored pieces to my wardrobe.

What I’m Most Excited About

The start of a new year always feels full of possibilities, but this year especially, I’m excited to see how my sewing evolves. I’m eager to tackle projects that challenge my skills, tell stories through my creations, and celebrate the joy of handmade fashion.

I’ve already started working on my Make 5 2025 Challenge, where I’ll sew five carefully selected patterns this year. My first project, a double-breasted coat from Know Me 2103, aligns perfectly with my goal of sewing more tailored garments. It will be my first time sewing a double-breasted design, and I’m looking forward to sharing the process and results with you.
